The
Rohawk Story
In
2001, Scott Ross resigned from his position as Vice President of Engineering
at a New Hampshire-based videoconferencing company. During the next year,
Scott worked as a consultant, and part-time executive pastor at Manchester
Christian Church, where he was serving as an elder. It was during this time
that he saw an opportunity for provide software to help church leaders be
more effective. It was also during this time that Scott sensed God calling
his family to Montana.
With no
relatives and no job waiting in Montana, the move was a step in faith. But
in 2002, after much prayer, and many conversations with friends and family,
Scott, his wife Kathy, son Luke, dog and cat headed west to Absarokee,
MT. On their first day in Montana, a stranger struck up a conversation in
a Wal-Mart parking lot, and mentioned that his old pastor had recently
started preaching in Absarokee. His church was not the church the Rosses
first started attending, but it was the one they ended up at. They got
plugged into ministry, with Scott eventually leading the worship team and
Kathy leading children’s ministry. It was clear God directed them to this
church.
Scott
began studying for his Microsoft certifications while looking for work.
Eventually Scott accepted a position at a software development company,
where he completed his MCP and MCSD certifications, and where he developed a
close friendship with Russ Hawkins. Russ is a strong Christian who
immediately saw the value in Scott’s idea for leadership software. After a
lot of discussions and napkin drawings, with a strong sense that God was
behind it, they formed Rohawk.
Says
Scott: “It’s exciting to look back and see God’s hand in bringing us
together in this place, at this time to develop software that can be a
blessing to a lot of church leaders, and a lot of churches.”
